And here's where the money goes. Into technical training projects, Electric Vehicles built by pupils. Do it and learn. These will be the engineers of the future.

Charge your car in 5 minutes. Plug and Play Power is starting to sound more and more achievable. I've spent more time waiting in queues for petrol sometimes.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4508314/Electric-car-battery-fully-charged-FIVE-minutes.html Robert and his EBike conversion. This was a well used Woodhills bike and required a bit of extra maintenance to bring it up to speed but it's back and working now and starting to rack up the kilometres again. Robert is intending to ride from Titirangi through to Grafton to commute. He's already enjoying the 'training' rides and getting his safety riding gear together. Lights and guards to come.
Another interesting article on Bikes and Ebikes.
https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/04/the-future-of-transport-is-here-and-its-got-two-wheels Completed two more conversions recently and the 'convertees' are very happy with the results. One of them has almost halved his travel time from home to work. Just waiting now for our new models to arrive later on in the month. Our recent second shipment is already selling fast, only a few left from what I am told. And we have another even bigger shipment ordered already with a lot more bikes and new models to come including our MTB special. Very busy day at Ecofest, huge crowds and lots of interest in conversion of existing bikes and new bikes. Hardly had time to sit down or have lunch and I was pretty hoarse by the end of the day. Must have spoke to over 300 people including quite a number of groups that collected. Hopefully we'll see some customers eventuate from it all. A busy and entertaining weekend. The EBike seminar I ran at Ecomatters on Saturday morning was a great success. About 20 turned up to find out more and most had tests rides afterwards. I have already had two enquiries resulting from that event. And I'll be at their big EcoFest next Sunday 9th to share the Ebike message with even more. After that I travelled over to Narrow Neck Beach to attend the 'Fall in love with a Bike' event being run by Auckland Transports Adrienne Hooper, the Northern Walking and Cycling Coordinator. They just so need more bikes on the North Shore, the traffic getting there was horrendous. But we handed out more information and gave more test rides along with a large group of other cycling organisations attending. All told it was very successful if a little tiring doing them both. Or is it kilometrestone ?
Just clicked over the first 1000 km on the Ebike. And we are definitely getting fitter and faster. I've lost about 5kg since October '16. I'm riding around 2 gears higher than when I started and using less assist. And I'm powering past cars in the Auckland gridlock ....errr road system. And hills must be getting flatter as well. It's all good I tell you. This Saturday April 1st, I'm at Ecomatters to do an Ebike Seminar for a group of people, show and tell type of thing. And we'll have test rides, I'll have at least two bikes, maybe three with me. Bought a new carrier for the Outlander and can carry more gear. Ecomatters is at Olympic Place, New Lynn if you're interested in attending. Starts at 10:30 for about an hour and a half. I may also manage to get across to Auckland Transports, 'Fall in love with a bike' Event at Narrow Neck Beach later on. Starts at 3pm and goes to 4:30. Come check the bikes and Ebikes out. Excellent day at the Kaipatiki Ecofest yesterday. Plenty of test rides, had to recharge all three bikes when I got home. Lots of interest in both our new Ebikes and conversion options. Would you believe I can easily get two folding bikes into the back of the Outlander with room for all the other stuff as well.
Next two events are the seminar I am running at EcoMatters in Olympic Place next Sat 1st April from 10 am. Contact them if you want to attend. A run down on the ins and outs of bike conversion with test rides and possibly some assesments of any bikes are brought in. Then the following Sunday 9th I'll be at their big EcoFest day with another tent and bikes for test rides and information. Looks to be a busy day for sure. Big thanks to the Kaipatiki Project group for the opportunity and the hospitality. Met a whole bunch of neat people and had some fun conversations with a lot of very interested people. Looking forward to the next time and the next two weeks events. p.s. The gentleman having the test ride on my bike is 83 and is still on his Avanti road bike racking up the kilometers. Hopefully we can help him add even more with a conversion kit. And another convert who has found the power of the pedal ( and a battery ). I'm nearly up to 1000 km on my EBike, mostly work commuting, about 15 km per day. The poor car is lucky if it gets used at the weekends to go shopping. It's slashed my petrol bills something drastic, filling up about every 3 - 4 weeks.
I'm at Kaipatiki Ecofest this Saturday 25th. Pushing the good message on EBikes. If you're around that way come and say hi and take look at conversions and new Ebikes. https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/opinion-escaping-aucklands-gridlock-using-electric-bike-truly-liberating Thursday evening we launched the EVolocity EV program to secondary schools in Auckland at the AUT Technology Campus in Newmarket. About 12 school teams turned up with a bike of sorts and were given a simple motor kit and one hour to fit it to the bike. The first one rolled out within 40 minutes ! Congratulations Orewa College !!
EVolocity is a charitable organisation which sponsors an EV project scheme for schools. They are given motor kits and a year to come up with their own Electric Vehicle. Support comes from a number of other sponsors but MeloYelo is the support group which provides much of the funding with moneys earned by associates like myself converting bikes and now selling new Ebikes. Overall it was an excellent kick off evening for the four year old program in Auckland. We have over 60 motors arriving very shortly for all the schools taking part and we're looking forward to seeing the new engineers of the future when they test their vehicles at the end of the year Pix below Inside the AUT Technology Campus with a team working on it's bike. The winning team from Orewa College, note the copious amounts of duct tape ! The smallest bike to be converted, The mid-ships brown box is the battery holder ! |
